Chapter 2

Dubai: A historical background

No ship captain can find a safer and more secure port than Dubai Creek. It is one of the best natural ports in the Gulf, if not in the world. It is 14 kilometres long and its banks have the two advantages of being in the sea and over a giant river. It is natural that it has become the lifeline of Dubai and the source of its survival, excellence and growth over the ages.
