About the Book

The Arabic edition of the book was launched by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Dubai Airports and Emirates Airlines and Group.

The book generated rave reviews and appreciation of key industry players, prominent government officials, businessmen, media and historians for its rich content, presentation style and loads of history about the emergence of Dubai on the world aviation map and organizations that contributed towards this unparalleled growth and expansion.

The journey of success, started by late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum in '60s and relentlessly pursued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, reached a golden milestone when Dubai International Airport celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2010.

This is the first book in Arabic on the emirate's aviation sector and about the transformation of Dubai from having a tiny airport to becoming a successful, ever-expanding global aviation hub serving 47 million passengers annually.

The book is a tribute to this journey of success and portrays the vision, can-do spirit and unbridled efforts of the leaders who worked towards turning their dreams into reality.

The book has been distributed to local and international organizations like the Dubai Airports, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, General Authority for Civil Aviation, Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Department of Economic Development, UAE ministries and diplomatic missions, major business houses, corporate entities, and cultural and government bodies.

The book have chapters dedicated to the events and developments leading up to the use of Dubai Creek for the BOAC services in late ‘30s and the correspondences between the Ruler of Dubai and British authorities, BOAC, IAL and BP. The first civilian flight landed in Dubai in October 1937. The expansion and expectations of the Dubai’s aviation industry until the year 2020 has also been a major highlight of the publication.

The book is very rich in history and authentic information and a great reading about Dubai and its vibrant aviation sector.

The book is the fruit of more than five years of research of British and UAE archives, official correspondences and historical literature and interviews with over 50 prominent officials, businessmen and historians.

The origins and expansion of Dubai Airport, Dubai Duty Free, Emirates Airlines, Flydubai, Cargo Village, DAFZA and Dubai World Central have been brought to light through authentic information and little-known facts.

The book is a best reference tool for those working in the civil aviation sector.

The book provides an opportunity for the readers to get a feel about the history and development over the years and an unhindered view of the future until the year 2020.

Work is underway to produce the English edition of the book for launch at the Dubai Airshow 2011.
